ALAVIS SAMMY ™ is a veterinary product for dogs and cats containing a combination of  SAM-e and silybin substances - extract from milk thistle. Both substances are known for their positive effects on the liver and its regeneration. The liver is the main and most important organ for the metabolism and the detoxification of the body. The metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and amino acids, the detoxification of ammonia, and the degradation of cholesterol and heme are found in the liver. Furthermore hormones are produced, degraded and inactivated in the liver, plasma proteins are produced there and an equally important function is to store energy (lipid and glycogen), iron and vitamins.

The active ingredients contained in ALAVIS ™ SAMMY:

SAM-e (S-adenosyl methionine) - 200 mg

Silybin (extract from Silybum marianum) - 24 mg

The active ingredient SAM-e is transformed into glutathione, which is a very important antioxidant. This means that it prevents damage to important cellular components with reactive oxygen species mainly in hepatic cells and is thus of great importance in their protection. Glutathione is also of great importance for metabolic and biochemical reactions, e.g. the synthesis of DNA, proteins, prostaglandins and amino acids and enzyme activation.  It also has an effect on the immune system,  nervous system, gastrointestinal system and  the lungs.  It is critical in the metabolism and function of iron. It is also involved in leukotriene synthesis and is a cofactor for the glutathione peroxidase enzyme. 

Silybin from milk thistle has long been known and used for its hepatoprotective effects, i.e. the protection of liver cells (hepatocytes). It prevents the breakdown of hepatocytes and promotes the regeneration of damaged cell membranes.

Concomitant use of the substances SAM-e and silybin has a significant, positive effect on liver regeneration.   In recent years, the significance of the SAM-e substances in cognitive disorders (dementia) of geriatric dogs and cats is also being found. With the increasing age of these animals we encounter the development of dementia, and we can mitigate these changes with the SAM-e  substance.

Excipients: magnesium stearate, modified starch and gelatin

Method of use: The capsules are administered daily into the animal's mouth or with a small piece of food according to the recommended dosage. The capsule can be opened, and its contents can be mixed with water or with a little bit of food.

The medicine should be administered at least 60 minutes prior to meals.

Duration of administration: For acute inflammation of the liver or pancreatitis, administer the medicine ALAVIS SAMMY ™ every day for 1-3 months. For chronic liver problems, administer the medicine every day for 2-3 months, and for high-risk patients or patients with significant hepatic damage, administer the medicine two times a week for a long period after a 1-3 month daily treatment.
